The Council guest house is situated on Taburao village near the main road in front of the TSKL branch Office and the Island Council Station about 15 minutes drive from the Airport. From the guest house to the lagoon side is only a few minutes’ walk. The guest house is ideal for those on government business.
It offers four Kiakias, (local houses with raised platforms) for both a single and couple, and one concrete building with three rooms (that can be used as a double and single room) furnished with beddings and mosquito nets. There is a store room for general equipment and a separate kitchen equipped with a gas and kerosene stove including utensils. They have a share toilet and one partitioned shower. Lights are run by a generator. The lounge is normally used as a dining room which has one table and a few chairs. Tea and coffee making facilities are available. Meals are served, but guests can also cook for themselves. Transport pickup at the airport is very important to be arranged with the Clerk prior to arrival in Abaiang as well as a drop off before departure.
For those who wish to travel and experience riding on a local catamaran boat with the locals, they would need to arrange with the clerk a drop off at the next village where the boat departs on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday to Tarawa at around 10.00 am in the morning. Island guided tour, truck hire, boat hire and motorbike hire to explore the island by yourself are also possible and can be arranged with the Clerk at the guest house.
