The Captain Cook Hotel is the first hotel on Christmas Island, named after Captain James Cook, a famous English explorer, who discovered Christmas Island on Christmas Eve 1777. Built on historical footings from a ruined British military base during early occupation of Christmas Island for bomb tests, the Captain Cook Hotel has been continuously owned by the Government of Kiribati and has accommodated many travelers and fishermen visiting Christmas Island since 1975. The hotel is nestled within sight and earshot of the island’s barrier reef and the ocean will lull you to sleep at night especially when the surf breaks over it in a distance. The Hotel is situated 10 minute drive from the international airport.

Facilities

The hotel offers 24 simple, pleasant, and comfortable rooms with air conditioning, private bathrooms, includes stall showers heated by solar energy, and refrigerators. All rooms are situated on the ground floor of the two wings of the hotel and open onto a courtyard facing the ocean beach. At the main building there is a front counter, a conference room, bar, mini grocery shop, and a dinning. Apart from the main facility, the Captain Cook Hotel provides your accommodation choices of 20 attractive, thatch-roofed bungalows situated on the ocean beachfront 50 yd away. All bungalows have private bathrooms and toilets, refrigerators, two single beds, ocean view, hot water heated by solar energy, air conditioners, plus tables and chairs.
